I enjoyed The Association of Wedding Professionals (AWP) of Greater Washington, DC meeting at Maggiano’s in Tyson’s Corner last night. I met and enjoyed the Speaker, Dr Maggie Daniels, an associate professor at George Mason University. I’m an Alumni, and I earned my Bachelor of Arts at GMU with a major in Photography and minor in Psychology. I learned tonight that Professor Daniels was named one of Modern Bride’s 25 Trendsetters! Her discussion was enlightening and full of ideas from her research in event management.

I am continually researching and learning the new trends in weddings and always interested in finding new inspiration to excel in my wedding photography profession. So many wonderful and talented wedding professionals were in attendance last night. I was happy to meet Ellen Goldberg the owner of the Briar Patch B&B in Middleburg, Virginia. It is such an ideal Virginia countryside setting for a wedding event. I look forward to touring the Briar Patch and photographing weddings at their beautiful venue. As a true Virginian girl I grew up in the countryside of Virginia and love the history of our area.
I enjoyed meeting Michele Marquez, Director of Special Events at 2941 a nice wedding venue in Falls Church, Virginia. Here are a few images at the event. Special thanks to Jon Fleming, event photographer.

Maggiano’s Little Italy restaurant in Tyson’s Corner created a wonderful dinner for us to enjoy with Chicken Saltimbocca, and Asparagus Ravioli and sumptuous desserts of Crème Brulee and Chocolate Zuccotto Cake. A lovely evening out for all us hardworking wedding professionals! – Donna Gilroy
Hope you have a hippity-hoppity holiday weekend!
Lovely springtime coral bridal bouquet! – image courtesy of Gilroy Photography
Springtime is finally here and the cherry blossoms are in bloom. I photographed this Bridal Styled Shoot for the Hilton Garden Inn, Fairfax, Virginia to celebrate the Spring season. The Flower Gallery of Manassas owner, Doug created a beautiful bouquet of coral roses and hydrangea blossoms to grace our bride’s hands. The Wedding Gown from Bobbies’s Bridal Boutique is a Jasmine ball gown with a sweetheart neckline adorned with beaded Alacon Lace with chapel length train. Hair and makeup was by Stylist to Go and the venue was the Hilton Garden Inn in Fairfax, Virginia. All Wedding Photography courtesy of Donna Gilroy at Gilroy Photography.
The color palette was soft and elegant with shades on taupe, coral and ivory. The coral parasol was a beautiful feminine element and the lighting was so soft and beautiful.
Jessie and Kevin were great fun to photograph! They chose one of my favorite engagement session locations, Old Town Alexandria. I began the beautiful couple’s Alexandria engagement photos on King Street and then we walked down to the amazing waterfront. Old Town Alexandria has gorgeous views of the boats and water and the delightful gazebos are great fun for couples. The Nautical theme engagement session has lots of sweet touches. Enjoy!
Love Story of Jessie and Kevin
From Jessie’s point of view
We met through mutual friends in 2011, but didn’t start dating until after a friend’s wedding in 2012. Our first date in June took place at Dupont Circle. We ended up sitting at the fountain and talking for hours! We had a late dinner at Kramerbooks and Afterwords, then we shared our first kiss on the metro escalator heading home. Fast forward to October 2013, when we took a trip to Cincinnati to Kevin’s hometown and meet his family. The first night we were there, we saw Of Mice and Men performed by the Cincinnati Shakespeare Company. After the performance, Kevin led me to the statue of Hamlet (a pig dressed like the Shakespeare character) and popped the question! Of course, I responded with a resounding Yes – that may have woken up half the city! We then when to Arnold’s for celebratory drinks.
